Maintenance of your Starway E-Bike
Battery
Your E-Bike’s battery is one of the most expensive parts to replace. To maintain its longevity as much as possible, it is essential to follow a few simple guidelines:
- In regular use:
- Avoid going below 15% charge, this wears out the battery prematurely, especially if you discharge it completely!
- There is no need to wait until your battery is very discharged to recharge it. As soon as it is below 90% charge, you can recharge it. Regular short recharges preserve the battery better than long recharges, even if you do not recharge to 100%.
- During a long period of non-use:
- Store your battery with a charge between 50% and 80%.
- Recharge it for about 10 minutes once a month.
- In cold weather:
- You can use your battery in cold weather but you may find that it discharges more quickly, which is normal.
- When you are not using your bike, store the battery in a place where the temperature remains above 10°C
- Do not recharge it when it is too cold (<10°C): Bring it back to a heated room and wait until it has returned to room temperature
Brake pads
Don’t forget to check your brake pad wear!
Worth varies greatly depending on the terrain and the driver, but they usually need replacing after about 1,000 to 2,000 km of use.
Completely worn brake pads damage the discs and significantly reduce braking efficiency!
Tire pressure
Check your tire pressure regularly!
At least every two weeks during periods of use, and even more frequently during periods of significant temperature fluctuations.
As a reminder, the pressure should be approximately 3.5 bar in the front and 4 bar in the rear.
Loading
Be careful not to overload your E-Bike!
You risk breaking spokes and warping the rear wheel.
If you’re riding in a group, distribute your luggage, taking into account the total weight of the cyclist and luggage. In other words, give more luggage to the lightest person, even if they’re less athletic; the electric assist will compensate!
